The university is carrying out interior construction works in the E&FM yard commencing 14^th September 2026 (duration 2days).

As part of these works, temporary interruptions to the lighting supply in the workshops, toilets & offices. This may include the lighting serving the communal corridors and circulation areas immediately outside Dan’s office.

Occupants are therefore advised to expect possible intermittent disruption to lighting during the works and to take appropriate care when using affected areas.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and restore normal lighting operation as soon as practicable.

Re-branding of Bridgeman Building and the area surrounding the revolving doors are to be highlighted as “Student Central”. The student service sign (near the crossroad) will be replaced with a Bridgeman Building sign to maintain a clear building identity. As part of these improvements, the current pink exterior render will also be repainted purple. 

Internal

A new iPad workstation will be installed on the right-hand side of the entrance corridor. The workstation will be fully accessible and compliant with disability access requirements. It will provide secure charging and storage for four iPads, allowing them to be safely housed and readily available for use.

This is the fourth fire alarm visit for the testing (October 2025 - September 2026) set out by the University schedule, and requires a visit of silent testing, preceded (or followed) by LIVE TESTING, which will involve activating all sounders and fire interfaces in the building(s).

During the LIVE TESTING, all sounders will be activated.  BTS will be wearing ear defenders, but cannot supply them to all the occupiers of the buildings.  The building does not need to be evacuated, but can be if the occupiers so wish.  All interfaces will be activated which mostly (but not limited to) action BMS links and door closures.  There can be no exceptions due to the requirements of the tests.  The alarms should be assumed to be activated for a period of up to 15 minutes from the time stated below (in brackets) unless otherwise stated.

BTS can make no guarantee that we will be able to get plant back online as soon as the test is finished but we can contact E&FM to assist where required.

A period of silent testing will follow (or precede) this where a selection of input devices around the building(s) will be activated silently.  This will not activate any outputs on the system.  BTS will regularly monitor the system for any real fires and raise the alarm if necessary.

Once this notice has been sent, access will be assumed to have been granted to BTS for the dates/times and activations mentioned below UNLESS we are contacted prior to the date/time in question with at least three days notice.

Works are to take place on AHU_1 which serves the main restaurant space of Village Dining alongside AHU_2. During this time only AHU_2 will be operational.

The heating burner to AHU_1 was replaced with a LTHW coil last year, a new LTHW boiler system is to be installed to serve the new heating coil to AHU_1. (AHU_2 remains as existing direct gas fired).

The new boiler system will include the installation of 2No. 100kW boilers, these will serve as resilience and futureproof the installation for AHU_2 future requirements. A new common flue will be installed to serve the boilers and pipework with spare future connections for AHU_2 to be connected later if/when required. The new system will be connected to the local control panel with new sensors to the pipework and AHU_1 ductwork sections to allow BMS integration control.

The existing run around coil pipework serving AHU_2 is to be altered to make space for the new boiler system including secondary and ancillary equipment. New valves and pipework will be installed to join the R-A-C pipework of AHU_2 to AHU_1 to allow the quick fill loop of AHU_1 to be used to fill both systems, the valves will be left closed under normal operation.
