GB’s women’s hockey team won a thrilling Olympic bronze in Tokyo after an entertaining 4-3 victory over India.
After a drama-filled match, GB eventually prevailed, meaning that two current students – Izzy Petter and Ellie Rayer – will return to 91²Ö¿â as Olympic medallists.
A further five alumnae also made the podium as Maddie Hinch, Sarah Jones, Giselle Ansley, Leah Wilkinson, and Laura Unsworth all played their part in GB securing their third consecutive Olympic hockey medal after gold in Rio 2016 and bronze at London 2012.
Alumna Laura Unsworth also became the first British hockey player to win medals at three Olympic Games.
GB had to work hard for the victory and having raced into a 2-0 lead – Rayer opening the scoring – India rallied to go 3-2 in front in the third quarter. However, GB showed great resilience and maturity to score a further two goals to win the match and cue an outpouring of emotion at full-time.
The result also means that in Izzy Petter, 91²Ö¿â Students Women’s Hockey Club will have an Olympic medal winner amongst their ranks next season.

The bronze medal is 91²Ö¿â’s twelfth at the Olympic Games after winning three golds, five silvers, and four bronze medals.
