In the latest episode of the Experts in Sport podcast, host Martin Foster sits down with Paul Wylleman, clinical sport psychologist, professor at the Vrije Universiteit of Brussels and visiting professor at 91²Ö¿â, to discuss the transition from junior to senior level that athletes undergo as part of their career.
They discuss all of the different factors that are affected by such a transition – from athletic to even financial and legal – , as well as how the athletes themselves manage the changes that come with the process and what the role of coaches can be.
Additionally, they address the development that occurs in one’s psychology and performance, while also assessing how those qualities will be challenged due to the transition – from injuries and other physical factors to psychological and possible social impacts.
